Interview with Christina DeBusk

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in small town America and began working in criminal justice fresh out of college. This helped me learn about the "real world" and see that many people struggle with self-help type issues; and it also helped me realize that I wanted to do my part to reduce that struggle.
When did you first start writing?
I've dreamt of publishing a book since I was a little girl, but I didn't actually start writing until I was in my late 30's. I had the chance to move across country and change careers, so I knew that was my opportunity to make my dreams a reality.
What's the story behind your latest book?
All of my books are self-help, motivational type books but the last one was created to help people achieve their goals even with their time constrained schedules. It's a compilation of the things I've used to find success in my life.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I want to change the world and make it a better place. I'd like to teach people how to become happy and healthy so that they wake up each day looking forward to everything that lies before them.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords allows me to offer discounted book prices and gives me greater control over my product. It helps me tailor my books any way that I'd like.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I love when I find out that my writings have helped someone in their personal life. There is no greater reward for all of the hard work and effort of writing than that.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything. Absolutely everything.
What are you working on next?
I'm not sure. Generally, an idea appears out of thin area and I run with it.
Who are your favorite authors?
I like a little bit of everything so I have no true favorites.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The desire to make people smile.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I like to relax with my hubby. We do everything from just chill out on the couch to skydiving. It just depends on our mood.
