Interview with Sal Colascione III

Describe your desk
Actually, my desk is quite a mess. Which is a shame since it's such a nice desk. I'm a bit of a serial entrepreneur so I've always got lots of things going on. I have a lot of hobbies and interests and I tend to create businesses for each and every one of them. It's a habit - but I can't say it's a bad habit. I do love everything I do. The only problem is - sitting all day long. But back to my desk - it's a nice, wooden desk by "Hooker Furniture" and I really do wish I could see more of the top...
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew on on Long Island, mostly Lindenhurst (in New York). I'm not quite sure how growing up there might have had any effect on my writing. I moved to Florida at 34 years of age and have been here ever since.
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing in as a young boy. At that time I was writing poetry and what you might use for lyrics in songs. Shortly after I got tired of that I started writing short stories. I never took it seriously and never had anything published. At this point in time I have two ideas for novels but no time to make any real progress on them.

I first started writing self-help books and guides in 2001. I had just lost a lot of weight and constantly had people ask me what I did. I went over this so many times that I decided to write everything down. Since I enjoy writing, that first turned into a short guide, then a small book.

I write my self-help books the same way I talk to people in person. People tell me they like that style - and I'm glad they do! Because that's what comes natural to me...
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book, The Super Elusive Triple Digit Weight Loss Diet, was inspired by the success of many people I help with diet ideas, exercise, and nutrition. I call it "The Triple Digit Diet" because it's a system that tends to work great for people with a lot of weight to lose. I want to focus on these people because they're typically the ones that don't believe it can work for them. I like the challenge...
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I'm just getting started with Smashwords (today, in fact) so I'll have to update how it has contributed to my success at a later date...
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
For me, the greatest joy of writing, is seeing people appreciate my work. I love seeing people find success in places they never thought possible.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I love life! I love living. I love waking up every day and wondering what's going to happen. Being an internet entrepreneur is something I appreciate very much. These are the things that inspire me to get out of bed every day...
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When not writing, I spend my time running various small businesses. This does keep me tied to my desk more than I like to be - but it's necessary. If I didn't enjoy what I do, I wouldn't be doing it. I do my best to wake up early Monday through Friday to do cardiovascular exercise - whether that be mixed martial arts training, weight lifting or the treadmill at the gym...
What is your writing process?
I wonder if my writing process is unique. I'm guessing it's not. I don't take notes. I just have a conversation with the keyboard. I write as if I'm talking to you in person - as if you're standing right in front of me. The words just flow out of me...
How do you approach cover design?
I'm not much of an artist so i imagine my approach to cover design should be searching for a good artist on Google! But, I do love working on computers so I typically find a nice template to work with and then come up with my own design ideas. I don't have the greatest eye for design but I do my best...
What do you read for pleasure?
I'm a huge fan of automobiles and smart devices. I tend to spend most of my reading time on publications about cars and phones...
