Interview with Conrad Abong Franco, Jr

Mark: Hi Conrad, welcome to the "Smashwords Interview". So, to start off, can you tell us your story as an indie author?
Conrad: Thanks, Mark. It's an honor to have me on board. I think my story started when I was young.

(Becoming a writer). I can say that while I love reading, writing has been always my passion. Back on my elementary days, we were told to write a simple composition about our favorite pet, summer vacation, or any memorable experience. That's how I recall the beginning of my world in the written words.

(Becoming a poet). In high school, I learned about writing poems. Though I was new to the genre, still I was able to write my own poem. Later, I wrote more poems, especially during college. It was then in college that I learned to write acrostic and other types of poetry. Usually, my themes are about family, friendship, fascination, frustration and faith.

(Becoming a blogger). In 2013, I was convinced to join an MLM program which taught me the fundamentals and secrets of internet marketing. Through this I learned basic HTML coding for blogs, making a squeeze page, email lists and stuffs that online marketers do. It was then the start of my content writing online but unfortunately, I was not able to focus on this opportunity as I have to prioritize my corporate job then.

(Becoming an indie author). In 2016, I have written a manuscript that was supposedly for my new blog but when I learned about Smashwords last March 2017, I was inspired by the story and the purpose of Smashwords. So, I decided to make it rather as an ebook.
Mark: What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Conrad: My family is the real reason to live life each day and I'm inspired to read, write and share what I know.
Mark: What is your writing process?
Conrad: Before (or even sometimes) when I got ideas on mind, I write it on a small piece of paper then later finalize it on a clean paper or notebook. In the present time and with the advent of technology, my smartphone is my instant buddy for writing. With my phone, I can easily save my thoughts on the go then saving it later in a Word document with my laptop.
Mark: What do you read for pleasure?
Conrad: I read anything. I'm interested in articles that deal with great questions in life but with biblical explanations and answers, I admire fiction and fantasy stories and love to explore mysteries.
Mark: What is the story behind your books?
Conrad: Well, my books are products of my passion. I love writing for other people to get inspired and enjoy it.

"Beyond Bitcoin" is supposedly for my new blog but I edited it to be fitted as an ebook after discovering Smashwords.

"Poet’s Pen" is a collection of my own poems. It was taken from my unpublished ebook "Beyond the Pen: A Work of Poetry and Prose".

"To Teach" is my actual written work during our Professional Education (2014-2015) class in "The Teaching Profession" subject.

"Ang Pulis" is my first flash fiction written in Tagalog language. It is also available in English and Korean languages.

"The Cop" is the English translation of the Tagalog flash fiction, "Ang Pulis".

"Super Bleu" is my second flash fiction. It is also available in Korean language.

"Syupeo Beullu" is the Korean translation of the English flash fiction "Super Bleu".

"Gyeong Chal Gwan" is the Korean translation of the Tagalog flash fiction, "Ang Pulis".

"Thirty and One" is a compilation of 31 ebook reviews written in short, simple and stylistic views.

"One Hundred One" is a compilation of 101 ebook reviews written in short, simple and stylistic views.
Mark: How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Conrad: Smashwords is a big help in realizing my dreams especially in becoming a published author.
Mark: What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Conrad: For me, the greatest joy of writing is when I'm able to pass on a little enthusiasm in the hearts of the readers.
Mark: Who are your favorite authors?
Conrad: For classic authors, I love the literary works of Charles Dickens, Eric Arthur Blair (George Orwell), Robert Frost and William Shakespeare.

For online writers and bloggers, I admire the works of Efren Nolasco, Jerry Pontillo (Jay Hee Seo), Krzysztof Kowalczyk and Ofir Beigil.

For Smashwords authors, I believe in the smart words of Mark Coker, Mark Elswick, Trevor Tanqe, Bill Taylor and many others.

Lastly, I also enjoy other authors like John C. Maxwell and Zig Ziglar.
Mark: When you’re not writing, how do you spend your time?
Conrad: I spend my spare time with my family, surfing the net or playing bitcoin games on my phone.
Mark: How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Conrad: Years ago, I acquired thousands of PLR ebooks from an online MLM program. While searching online how to sell those ebooks I was stumbled to the Smashwords site last March 2017. Although I cannot publish it on Smashwords, I got a chance to read more awesome ebooks from different authors around the world and publish my own ebooks with this free publishing platform.
Mark: Before we close this interview, do you have any final thoughts, Conrad?
Conrad: I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for supporting me and my works. To my family, friends, fellow authors, readers, reviewers and those who have helped me in one way or another, thanks a lot. Also, I want to take this opportunity to say thank you, Mark for creating Smashwords. With that, a lot of aspiring authors were given a chance to expose their works in a global audience and I am one of them. But most of all, to the Author of my life who is the source of my strength and wisdom. Once again, thank you.
Mark: You're welcome, Conrad. It's great to hear your story here on "Smashwords Interview".
