Interview with Coyotes Publishing

When did you first start writing?
My very very very first piece of writing that I did was in high school, it was during a Co-oP class in which my teacher told the class to write about our dreams or nightmares...
I chose to write about my nightmares, in this particular piece of writing I wrote how every day from the moment I step on the bus in the morning to the moment I stepped off the bus I was constantly bullied and harassed. Including as I walked the halls at school, needless to say after the teacher seen that things got worse... In fact while the teacher gave me "pointless busy work" to keep me out of the class she read what I wrote to the entire class.
The school thought it would also be a good idea for me to talk to the school psychiatrist, needless to say that only lasted for one visit.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book has not been released at this point time as it's called "Poetry While Sick" I've been fighting a cold and turning my thoughts into poetry it may or may not make sense to people it doesn't matter I decided to step out of my comfort zone for this one... Keep checking my website for latest information in regards to that:

What motivated you to become an indie author?
Honestly.... after I got in trouble for my first piece of writing that I did, I looked at it and said "I know I have a gift" so I continued.. I got told early that poetry doesn't really make you any money and most poets don't last long so I resorted to the William Shakespeare approach as he gave all of his poetry away for free as he read it in front of the Kings and Queens so I give mine to the people to enjoy.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
When I first opened my publishing company (Coyotes Publishing) back in 2002 everything I did was strictly on the website so I worked day and night to get things noticed and back in the day it wasn't a easy thing to do.
So about two years ago when I signed up to smashwords to see "what can they do for me" I never thought that in just a short time I could say... "I have my book....." followed by listing places like Chapters.ca or iTunes or Kobo to name a few. It's really mind blowing to see all the places that my books and everyone else on my publishing company has there books listed.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Allowing me to vent and get stuff off my chest. As quick as I can write it as is quick as I can get it published and distributed to the world.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans (if I have any) mean a great deal to me and to everyone on my publishing company. They're the reason that I say "WOW that last release got this many downloads, lets see what this idea can do"
What are you working on next?
I would like to call it .... "Rapid Poetry Release" or RPR as I plan on releasing a succession of poetry into the world through various books rather rapidly. Most people take there time and set dates and all that, with having my own publishing company and at this point in time being the only one left on it I feel that it's best if I try something new and innovative.
Who are your favorite authors?
I don't really have a favorite author as I don't read much at this point in time as it's a very busy time for myself.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Whenever I hear that alarm go off I feel its inspiration enough (laughing)... No but really what inspires me are my ideas, I think that's why I have such trouble getting to sleep at night is because I have so many ideas for releases now that I'm all by myself and I want to do them all, I just don't have the time to do all of them.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not writing I enjoy spending my time hanging out with my fiancee (Crystal) she's an amazing woman. I also enjoy hanging out with the group of people who have been on my publishing company as well. We normally just hang out and talk, watch movies and play video games or take day trips to do some shopping and listen to music.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
At this point in time I don't really read a whole lot, I know many indie authors may frown when they see that but I always find that I'm working on something new so it's tough for me to find time to sit down and start a book or if I get started I usually end up forgetting what the story is about because of it being so long in between time that I get back into it.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes the first poem I ever wrote was about the nightmare I went through every day with being bullied and harassed at school (see question 1 for further details)
What is your writing process?
I don't really have a process that I use, as when a idea comes to me I tend to write about it or when something happens in life I write about it.
Sometimes with releases I tend to say to myself "OK I got 12 hours this time tonight I'm releasing something so anything that I write today will be in this release"
How do you approach cover design?
At first I hated creating covers because I'm not that artistic and didn't have a great program, things have gotten better over time and I've enjoyed doing covers... When I think of a title the cover tends to come to me.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Currently I have a Kobo Touch and a Android both I use for the little bit of reading that I do.
Describe your desk
It always is and always will be a complete mess, I always got so much on the go and so much piled up.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I've always grew up in small towns, I don't think it really influenced my writing as I didn't grow up in a city and didn't have city life to deal with as my life has always been rather dull in the small towns.
