I've been inspired by Cory Doctorow, Melissa Marr, Gabriella Coleman, Sir Terry Pratchett, and Paul Theroux.
How do you approach cover design?
I have been designing e-stationary based on photographs that I take with my cheap digital camera for some years. Smashwords author Jeremy Crow got me started and has taught me many things about digital art.
My cover design usually has a modified photo of something that I've seen in my travels or in the woods.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I received a NOOK for Christmas one year. I also read on e-books on my computer. I would prefer a device that would allow me to read e-books from all sources but I haven't found it yet.
Describe your desk
My desk has a computer, a telephone, and a lamp on it. There is usually a live cat draped across it for decoration.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing poetry in fifth grade. My muse bit me. The insanity proceeded from there.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Up The Rebels was inspired by the Edward J. Snowden leaks and also by Stanley L. Cohen's favorite saying-- #UpTheRebels.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I like the feeling of seeing something through. I love getting published and I love having an audience for my work. Very few of us write in a vacuum.
What do you read for pleasure?
I read hacker/slacker lit, computer tech books, travel memoirs, and books written by atheists for fun.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I believe in the joyful sharing of information.
What are you working on next?
I've started a new book but it's a secret.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Inspired or not, the cold nose of the dog demanding attention and affection wakes me up every morning.
