Interview with Damien Gray

What kinds of books do you enjoy writing?
Since I don't have the creative attributes nor the patience it takes to write novels, I do however have a genuine passion for writing e-books that educate, inform, enlighten, and empower others. Though I truly don't profess to be the most prolific writer on the planet, I like to write on topics that most people "don't like to talk about around their kitchen table" - books that take people out of their comfort zones at times, and write in a straight-forward and sometimes in an "apolitically-correct manner" without all of the FLUFF that most authors like to include in their non-fiction manuscripts. I like to leave people with "food-for-thought" and allow readers to take from my books what they wish, if anything at all.
So what is the real motivation behind you writing these sorts of books?
Well...at 63 years of age, my passion is focused on helping to educate people from all walks of life and give them something to think about. I want to help open-up lines of communication between my readers, their family members and close friends.

I've personally always tried to learn things from other people, and it doesn't matter if I'm speaking with the CEO of a Fortune 100 company, or the people who clean the CEOs office. If you take the time to really care and truly listen, you'll be amazed at what you can learn from others from all walks of life, so never judge a book by its cover. If you do, you'll miss-out on a lot of valuable insight.
What's the story behind your first e-book as an Indie author?
After approximately 32 years of silence, the e-book which will be released in December 2013, titled: "From Rebirth to Rebirth: Shocking Spiritual Knowledge Revealed" is likely to be one of the most controversial e-books of the decade, though that was NOT my intent or motivation behind writing it. It's just that "the truth" sometimes can be controversial, regardless of the subject matter.

It's the true and actual account of the shocking spiritual lessons I learned from the heavenly realm when I had my full-blown near death (transcendent) experience in 1981, and it's completely different than all of the other NDE books on the market which other people have written. What separates this book from all of the others, it that it's 100% honest, and written without any hidden agendas whatsoever. There is no incentive for me at all to fabricate anything within the pages of this book, and I explain why that is within the first part of the book.

This knowledge is shocking because it goes against most of what we've all been forced or brainwashed to believe by the over 4,000 EARTHLY religions that most folks associate themselves with, so I see myself merely as a messenger-of-sorts, and I'll let readers take from it what they will, if anything at all.

"From Rebirth to Rebirth" can be a life-changing experience if it's read with an open mind and an open heart!
How do you approach cover design?
Well....there's some truth to the saying that "you never get a second chance to make a good first impression," and that applies equally to e-covers. You can author the finest e-book ever written on a particular subject, but if you've got an ugly or totally unprofessional-looking e-cover, that's a deal-breaker because few, if any readers are going to look past that "initial impression" your e-cover has left them with,.and purchase your masterpiece! It's a SAD but TRUE fact of life!

So to answer the question, I create my own professional-looking e-covers and I put in the time and creatity necessary to make them look as good as humanly possible!
When did you first start writing?
In high school, college and graduate school, I had to do a LOT of writing; essays, dissertations and research papers were the "norm" for me. Also during my first three years in the Army, I worked in the Public Information and Public Affairs field and I wrote a lot of articles for the two biggest Army publications: The "Army Times" and the "Stars & Stripes" newspapers.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Probably the opportunity to share my knowledge and wisdom with others, but this time on a much broader scale, thanks to Smashwords.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
It allows me to share my knowledge and the wisdom I've gained over the years, just as so many others have shared their knowledge and wisdom with me. The TRUE JOY however comes when I receive feedback from a reader, telling me how one of my books or a specific chapter made an impact in their life in a positive way.

I think it's important, especially as we grow older, to share the knowledge and wisdom we've gained throughout the years in order to (hopefully) benefit others. But with that having been said, if I can make a positive impact on just one other soul by sharing what I know then for me, life doesn't get much better than that as far as I'm concerned!
What are you working on next?
I'm still working on my first book (From Rebirth to Rebirth) and I have a few other books on different topics that I want to write as well. I'll be writing kind of a companion book next to "From Rebirth to Rebirth," entitled " What the Dying Have Taught me: What Hospice Patients Have Shared with Me Over the Years."

I believe that 2014 will be a great year for everyone to write and share with other!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I have a wide range of hobbies. I enjoy doing some wood working; I love to grill, cook and bake, and I love almost anything having to do with the water, such as swimming, boating, jet skiing, snorkeling and scuba diving. My wife and I also enjoy mini vacations to Las Vegas, Maui and Half Moon Bay.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Usually by doing a Google search on a particular topic.
