Interview with Darren Worrow

When did you first start writing?
As soon as I could pick up a pencil I was writing, what a silly question.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I have only just began using Smashwords and I am impressed so far with its efficiency and easy to use system, loving it more than apple pie and that is saying something.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Simple that one, making and knowing that people are laughing; too much agony and pain in this world and if I can make someone, somewhere, anywhere, smile then my work here is done and I am a happy little jumping bean.
What do your fans mean to you?
fans? Plural? Yeah, I love my fan; great guy y'know?
Who are your favorite authors?
Damn, these are getting hard now, can I phone a friend?

Here is a subject I could bore you into an early grave with. I am quite eclectic in my tastes (I said eclectic not eccentric) so if you asked me on another day I might come out with a completely different set of names but for now here goes:

Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra
Wu Cheng En
Joseph Heller
Roald Dahl
Douglas Adams
Roger Hargreaves
Dr Suess
Hunter S Thompson
Daniel Keyes
Philip K Dick
Frank Herbert
Arthur C Clarke
Ken Kesey
James Penhaligon
Cecily Magnon
Nancy Brooks
Dan Dillard
Maria Miller
Alexes Razevich
Pete Loveday
Raymond Briggs
Art Speilgman
Alan Moore
Frank Miller
CS Lewis
Bram Stoker
Ben Elton
Nick Hornby
Steven King
Garen Ewing
Will Eisner
Frank Kafka

Will that do?!
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
They hound me to review them! Seriously though you discover them by social networking.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yeah, I think so. I remember writing a book at primary school about a microchip that doesn't listen to his mum, goes off and gets stuck in some horrible situations within various computer games, ie, hit by aliens in space invaders, eaten by pac-man, etc. It won the competition in school and a famous author gave me a prize book token. In my mind it was Roald Dahl but am not sure that it really was!!
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I was so proud when I read Richard Adams Watership Down at school, it was a big book and other than the beano comic and Famous Five I had never read anything so long and intense.
How do you approach cover design?
I design almost all of my covers after I have written the book but I have a fair idea of how I would like it to look from day one.
What is your e-reading device of choice?

It wasn’t the fact that in 1984 Hollywood movie director James Cameron had a premonition that I would write this book and quickly altered the character’s names and the plot slightly to make his blockbusting film, it was the fact that he then sent a robot back through time to eliminate me before I was born by targeting me dear ol’ mum that annoyed me.
