Interview with David Whelan

What is your e-reading device of choice?
Well against the run of play, I prefer a good old fashioned paper book but in the ebook world I read off a kindle, although the PC version.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
The tried and tested social media sites are what I have been working off so far and its doing the trick. Facebook has been the most effective to date with twitter close behind.
Describe your desk
Ha cluttered anyway, a few empty cans of energy drinks around and at the weekend, the odd splattering of wine bottles. Most importantly, the speakers to blast out the tunes as I work.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Its a sci-fi adventure tale set in a universe that has been silenced at the same time. Nobody on the main featured planet can communicate off world and they all blame each other thinking that the enemy has destroyed their forces. The truth is far more sinister, and as the saga progresses all will be revealed
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Well I guess to sum it up in one word, Simplicity. Its easier, and even if my book is not so good, at least it can still be out in the public domain. Someone might like it
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Well I've only uploaded my book so I'll get back to you on that.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Creating my own world. My book is self indulgent, which has been in someways detrimental to its technical side. When I read over it, I get into the story. the joy of knowing its mine and I breeze by grammer mistakes a lot ha. With an ebook, its easily changed, not so much if its a printed book.
What do your fans mean to you?
They mean everything, and as my book is clichéd, so is my answer. You need fans, you need their support to write the next book and the next.
What are you working on next?
The second part of the Silent Saga is been worked on, tentatively titled, Secrets of Mandrania
Who are your favorite authors?
Derek Gunn, Stephen King, Arthur C. Clarke
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Getting paid at work, I wouldn't be able to put food on the table if not ha. But I am a positive person anyway, each day brings new knowledge, new jokes, new stories from people all help create characters and possible ideas for stories.

The Silent Saga: Desolate is the first chapter of an adventure saga that tells the story of the last survivors of an all out assault on the universe by a powerful enemy. Nobody knows who is responsible only that the universe was silenced and the colonies of Mandrania are thrown into disarray as they blame each other. The Silent Saga delivers old style action and clichéd fun with plenty of thrills.
