Interview with Deb Ling

What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
What inspires me to get out of bed each day is knowing that God is not done with me yet.
What are you working on next?
I am working on two books, one on healing, which is almost finished, and another on my testimony.

The one that is my testimony explains how having got right with the Lord almost 30 years ago, He has walked with me through many trials, healed me of an abusive past, held me tight through three years of homelessness, healing from the loss of a child, and saved my life on more than one occasion when the devil tried to take me out, starting when I was 10 months old.

Over the years, I have walked in the shoes of saints of the Bible. Like Daniel, I had a writing on the wall experience, like Phillip I was translated in the Spirit from one spot to another, like the disciples, I have seen many healed, and like Jesus, I had no where to lay my head. Through all of this and more, the Lord has used me in the gift of healing, as a prophet to the body of Christ, in the gifts of tongues and interpretation of tongues, in the interpretation of dreams, and in teaching through Bible Studies, conferences and my books.
Who are your favorite authors?
Peretti, C.S. Lewis, and Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Usually I spend my spare time, reading and or crocheting.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I look up books by genre. Then follow my gut if I have not heard of the author before.
What do your fans mean to you?
They mean the world to me because they are the ones I have been called to assist. They are people that are searching, sisters and brothers in Christ that are able to see that I can help them with healing or growth in their walk.

The fans of many of my books would be the ones that are looking to be healed. Those that have been hurt in the past would be helped by The Walking Wounded (for women), and The Wounded Soldier (for men). Those having problems with their marriage would be interested in Submission, through Unconditional Love.

On the other hand, those looking to grow in their walk would enjoy my latest book The Devil's Twins.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
The first "story" I wrote was a journalistic piece assigned to me in high school. I had to cover the new superintendent of schools. I typically do not write fiction. The exception to that would be "Web Junction." An allegory about marketing.
What is your writing process?
I have no big process. I sit down read where I left off and start typing. But I write non-fiction, so it is pretty easy to see where I left off and where I need to add more.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I think the first story I ever read that made an impression was A Badge of Courage. I was in fourth grade. It made me want to read more. I believe my love of reading is probably what brought me to the love of writing.
How do you approach cover design?
Each book has a different story to tell and the cover must convey that to some degree. The font is as important as any graphics involved. Of all my covers, which I designed, my favorite is The Devil's Twins.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
The Bible, because it is constantly teaching me something new.
Narnia by C.S. Lewis is an allegory and every time I read it more is revealed.
Peretti's 2 books which are about spiritual warfare and reveals spiritual principals between the pages.
The Left Behind series by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins because it could happen that way.
The Bait of Satan by John Bevere because it taught me not to be offended.
What do you read for pleasure?
I enjoy Christian novels by Gilbert Morris, Jeannette Oke, Mary Higgins Clark, etc.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I use my computer.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Word of mouth helps, and book trailers are also helpful.
Describe your desk
My desk is constantly covered. It has my laptop on it as well as my cup of coffee, my scanner, printer, mouse pad and scraps of paper notes. I need a bigger one!
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Southern California. Where I grew up did not influence my writing, but the trauma I went through, did. I am an ex victim of abuse, having been abused off and on during childhood and on into adulthood. Getting out of the cycle of abuse was not an easy task. I was healed from my past in the mid 90's, which prompted the writing of my first book - The Walking Wounded, which is what I had been before being healed.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing in school as extra credit to raise my grades. Then it began to get serious when I worked for a newspaper in the late 80's leading up to the mid 90's when I wrote my first book.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The story behind the book I just finished, The Devil's Twins, is easy. This book will cover a tool of the enemy that when Christians are aware, will help them walk in victory in this area. The name of the book came through an inspiration from the Lord.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I had tried to go the traditional means of publication, to no avail. No one was interested in this genre at the time I was ready to release them. Indie authorships became a hot topic and I started looking into it. The rest is history.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords is my hero. Without them I would not be able to really sell my work. I sell more through Smashwords than through any other outlet, including Amazon.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy for me in my writing is seeing someone get free after they read my work.

This ebook walks you through healing from past abuse. This is what the Lord used to heal me (the author) and I documented it to help others. I have taught this and seen many healed of their past. It does not matter how you received your wound, a wound is a wound is a wound. Even trauma can leave a wound so if you are being led to read this book - follow the Lord's lead.
