Interview with Debra Benson

Published 2016-04-03.
When did you first start writing?
I officially began writing in 2005 when I enrolled in a correspondence course 'Breaking Into Print' with Long Ridge Writers Group.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Houston, Texas. During this time, my mom would dictate to me a grocery list of items and then send me on a few miles of walking to Shoppers Fair up the street to pick up the groceries. I believe this was my first influence to write.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Andrea makes a bad decision and became vulnerable to an affair because she was afraid of a potential financial deficit.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I saw it as a way to write my stories and share them. It seemed fairly easy to make a good accomplishment in the world by being able to publish my work and have readers read it and hopefully enjoy it and/make a unique difference in their world for the moment.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has given me the thrill of being able to publish my work on a professional friendly platform and helps me be successful in sending it out in many ways across the globe.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Seeing the finished project after the initial writing of the first line, the edits, and the final copy is ready to publish.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything. The fans motivate me to write and correct what I may need to.
What are you working on next?
I'm working on book 2 in my Endless Affair Series.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
By a search engine search or as I see an promotion screening across social media that interest me.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. The 'Ten Dollar Tire', this was a story that I submitted to Long Ridge Writers Group in 2005 for acceptance into their Breaking Into Print course.
