Candice's Story is a companion novella to Falling Behind. Both books are based off situations that my friends and I dealt with in high school. Peer Pressure, Abuse (mental, physical and emotional) and friendship trials are situations that most high school students deal with. There are so many ways for teenagers to deal with these situations and the Falling Series addresses these options while telling a love story.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
The death of my mom. I wrote creative stories in high school and then again in my mid twenties. I put my writing aside to focus on my family and my career in the pool service industry. When my mom lost her battle to breast cancer I knew life was to short and uncertain to wait on my dreams. After talking with a few Indie Authors that I consider mentors, I wrote my first novel and it is locked away on my hard drive.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Hearing from my readers has to be the greatest joy. Also seeing my words in print.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans mean the world to me. Without them my words wouldn't be read. I would still write but it would mean less without the option to share it with people that love my writing and my stories as much as I do.
What are you working on next?
The second novel in the Falling Series, Falling Apart. It is first priority. However, I am also working on the third and final novel in the series and the first and second book in a new Contemporary Romance series coming out in spring 2014
Who are your favorite authors?
I have a very broad taste in authors and genres. Denise Grover Swank, Eisley Jacobs, Abbi Glines and Olivia Cunning are on the top.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My kids and being able to live my dream. To have the ability, not only to write, but to share those words with my readers and new readers daily.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Cleaning pools. I help my dad run and operate his pool cleaning service. I also love reading and try to read as much as I can.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Word of mouth usually. Blogs, friends and Facebook pages of my favorite authors.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
No not the first. I'm sure if my mom were alive she would be able to tell me what the first one was. The first I remember was when I was in my mid twenties. It was a high fantasy love triangle.
What is your writing process?
I am a pantser. I don't usually use an outline. I try to write from beginning to end but sometimes a random scene will come to me while driving or showering and I take down notes as detailed as possible, sometimes writing the entire scene out. Placing it where it belongs later. I always write the first draft not stopping for errors. I do a read through to fix timeline issues and spelling, missed word errors. The third draft goes to my beta team and critique partner. My critique partner also is used through out the first three drafts. I try to give myself enough time to correct Beta issues before sending it to my copy editor for first round of edits. Sometimes my editor gets it twice and sometimes a third time. After editing my critique partner, my husband and I do another read through, proof read. Once the proof reading is done I format the manuscript for epub and mobi. Then format for paperback. Then comes the hard part of promoting.
