Interview with Jeff Egerton

Who are your favorite authors?
Although I read mostly nonfiction, I've read some Dennis Lehane, John Grisham and Diana Gabaldon.
What are you working on next?
I'm currently working on three more novels. Dying for Diamonds is a contemporary mystery/thriller that is my first book with a romantic background. Vern and Rosanna are searching for her daughter who is missing in Mexico. During their investigation they discover an ingenious money laundering scheme that involves African diamond mines.

Spies and Lovers is my third historical novel featuring Catwalk and Curly. It's set in the cold war era: Because his airline is now flying into the USSR, the CIA asks Catwalk to perform some "courier" duties. He discovers that in the intelligence game, it's almost impossible to tell who is on your side.

Showdown is another Jake and Loretta thriller where he's captured by a Colombian drug lord. Loretta had misgivings about continuing their relationship, until she discovers that she's the only person who can rescue him.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
There is so much beauty and wonder to behold in nature. When I'm not writing, I enjoy spending time in the mountains with my camera and always find new surprises that just amaze me.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Because I read a lot of non-fiction that is history related, such as The Boxcar Blues, I often just surf the Amazon website looking for something I haven't read that piques my interest.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, it was the first draft of Caribbean Splash, which has since been rewritten to its present version which has been incredibly popular. Most readers comment on the unique plot and the incredible conclusion.
What is your writing process?
I try to write every day but if there comes time when I have to sit back and think about the progress of my current project, I do that and skip a day or two.
Why do all of your books have an aviation background?
My first career was in aviation. I started with the 2nd Marine Air Wing when I was 18 and spent the next 30 or so years in aviation related jobs. The culmination of my interest in aviation was when I wrote INTO THE WILD BLUE YONDER. It's an amazing book about the early history of the US airlines. The research for the book was a labor of love, discovering all of the fascinating stories associated with the creation of an airline when people were afraid of flying.
