Interview with David G Komatz

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up on Long Island in New York State. This had little influence on my writing. However, after spending over 43 years as a practicing accountant, tax preparer and five years as an fraud prevention instructor, I have decided to create books utilizing my vast wealth of experience to share with others.
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing in 2010. In 2013 I wrote and published eleven articles which have been posted on Ezine. com. I have earned the Diamond Expert Author there. I also began writing an extensive training manual for a new consulting designation. The articles are excerpts from the manual. The books I am publishing have been taken entirely from that manual.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The story behind my first book is related to my experience with small businesses and writing business plans. Many businesses today do not realize the importance of a business plan. The straight forward format of my book will hopefully help businesses to understand the importance of business planning.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
The motivation for me becoming an indie author comes from my desire to share my extensive knowledge with others.
What are you working on next?
My next book is about Asset Protection Planning and I hope to have it completed before Christmas this year.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The thing that gets me out of bed each day is thankfulness for being alive to spend time with my family and to write books. I also am now enrolled at Capella University where I am studying Criminal Justice at the master's degree level. This will be my second master's degree. The first is an MBA in forensic accounting.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I am not writing I spend my time reading or being with my beloved wife of 42 years.
What is your writing process?
My writing process starts with the topic. Once I decide on that I research the various aspects of that subject and then apply my learning and experience to personalize it.
How do you approach cover design?
Cover design is perhaps one of the hardest parts of creating a book. So much thought and preparation must go into the cover so that it grabs the attention of the reader. Putting the whole cover together takes many hours or trial and error.
