Interview with D. R. Gregory
Published 2018-03-25.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I wrote my first book twenty-five years ago and it sat unpublished because the traditional methods of publishing seemed so expensive and complicated, with little assurance that it would ever go into print. Then when I learned how easy it is to self-publish an eBook, it was a no-brainer.
What are you working on next?
I am considering writing another similar book, leveraging off of some of the characters in my first one. My intention is to eventually develop a series of books, each one using some existing characters, and some new ones.
Who are your favorite authors?
My first book was heavily influenced by Thomas Perry's novels featuring Jane Whitefield.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I enjoy raising fruits and vegetables on my small farm in the mountains. I also enjoy music, mostly classical and spiritual music. I like to listen, compose, and direct small music groups. I am a moderately accomplished performer on several instruments, but master of none of them.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I started by downloading some of the ebooks available on my Android phone from Google Play Books.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
When I am at home, I find my desktop computer to be the easiest to read. When I am on the go, I turn to my Android Smart Phone.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up near a small farming town. My first book features this same town and its lifestyle as it was when I was a teenager, but updated to reflect certain modern conveniences.
