Interview with Diane Montgomery

Who are your favorite authors?
Love Agatha Christie and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. And of course, there's always room for Anne Perry
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I have a son, dog and rabbit to care for. The rabbit will sit on top of you and wait till you get up; she wants breakfast. Haha. But, really, They inspire me and give me a reason to get out of bed. They're great.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Gardening, helping my son with homework. Going to the park with the dog. I have plenty to do.
What is your writing process?
I don't think I really have one. I just sit at the laptop and start to write. It's probably not the best way to write, but it works for me right now.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The first book was The Sign of the Four by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I remember getting to the end and couldn't figure out how he was able to come up with a villain. I had to re-read it to figure it out.
How do you approach cover design?
I wanted it to have a piece of my ex husband, hence the military boots. And the rose symbolizes the love I had for him.
What do you read for pleasure?
My son and I love to read mysteries and I especially love a good cookbook; especially if it has recipes that I've never seem before.
Describe your desk
My desk is pretty neat and tidy. I generally grab the laptop and I'll write basically anywhere I'm at. I've even been known to sit and write in the car while waiting for my son to get out of school.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The story is about how I met my husband and how my marriage became controlling and violent.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Putting my experience in book form and the satisfaction of getting to the end.
What are you working on next?
I'm toying with a few ideas. I very much want to publish another book.
