Interview with Sofia Khan

Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I don't remember the first ever story I ever read, but I remember the first story that actually impacted me was Chasing Vermeer by Blue Balliett. It was a beautifully written book and I wanted to write such a mystery like that.
How do you approach cover design?
I try to make covers myself. I think I have some skill in editing, and I like to make covers.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
I can only name three at the moment:
1) The Fault In Our Stars by John Green - it's honestly beautiful and the message it shows is inspiring.
2) Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell - it was easy to relate to the main character.
3) Chasing Vermeer by Blue Balliett - one of my favorite mystery books and it had inspired me to write.
What do you read for pleasure?
I can't help but admit that I read fan fiction for pleasure. Some authors actually write their fiction well.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I only like reading on my computer, where other types make me feel uncomfortable.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a small home in New Jersey and I guess it influenced my writing since I had barely anything to do, and I had something to actually write for.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing when I was in sixth grade.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing is just letting things out and expressing ideas on paper. I go into my own universe and it's honestly amazing.
Who are your favorite authors?
One of my favorite authors is definitely John Green.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not writing, I'm still making up ideas for writing, or doing actual school work. Or I'm reading.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
The first ever story I've written was a fan fiction and it was poorly written and it's still online, but I could look back on it and notice how much my writing style has changed and improved and it honestly amazes me.
