Interview with D.K. Deavers
Published 2019-09-07.
What are you working on next?
I am currently working on a young adult fantasy trilogy that focuses on the ancient theme of good versus evil. It revolves around an existence, an alternate society that shares the earth with mankind. It is made up of opposing sides who spend eternity in constant battle for souls. The stage is the earth, the victims are human kind. A young woman is thrust into the battle and finds protection and companionship from one of the good which lends some romance to the story. I hope to have Book 1 out by November 2019.
Who are your favorite authors?
Given my love of horror, I am a fan of Stephen King. Given my inclination for time travel and romance, I love Diana Gabaldon. Her Outlander series is something I have read again and again. (The TV series isn't too shabby either!) Like many, J.K. Rowling has given me a character I've loved for years. My intellectual side favors Ayn Rand and David McCullough. There are so many, but I've probably read more Nora Roberts and James Patterson than anyone else. Like with music, I tend to love a lot of different types, styles and people.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Unfortunately! When I go back and read it, I cringe. However, I have rewritten it and plan to publish it in the next couple months. It is a middle grade, time travel adventure. It brings back great memories as I read it to my son, one finished chapter at a time.
Describe your desk.
On my favorite side of the sofa, feet up on the ottoman, favorite blankey across my legs, my lap serves as my desk. Did I mention I'm wearing pj's too?
When did you first start writing?
I thought of writing for years and years. I had ideas, dreams, concepts and plots. I had considered characters and genres but found my motivation while reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone to my son. I loved Harry and wanted to write characters as lovable and inspiring.
