Interview with D. Lee Lott

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in San Antonio, Texas, but I don't know that this was much of an influence on my writing other than the fact that I started writing poetry in sixth grade that my teacher thought was pretty good. I later wrote newsletters and manuals for different companies that I worked for, but my true writing career started at a lonely point in my life. When I wrote my first book, my husband was working long days, seven days a week and I was alone a lot, so I threw myself into writing. Then it became a passion.
When did you first start writing?
In 2006, my grandson inspired me to write a rhyming children's book. I sent it to several different publishers for over a year with not even one response, so I became disenchanted, but writing was in my blood, so I put that book on the back burner and pursued other forms of writing.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book started from a dream that I had, so when I woke up I wrote the dream down and the words just continued to flow.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
After I finished my book, I submitted it to several traditional publishers and like the children's book I gave it a year, but never received any responses or feedback. This was my passion and I didn't want to give it up. That's when I, fortunately, discovered there was another way to get my books out there.
