Interview with Donna Shields

How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I read the blurbs and if it one catches my attention, then I will buy it and read. I do not return any even if I didn't particularly like it. Somewhere down the road I may read it again and like it.
Who are your favorite authors?
The top three of my favorite authors are James Patterson, Patricia Cornwell and Stephen King
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. It was Secrets of Jenkins Bridge. Although I had named it Second Chances at the beginning. I had been turned down so many times back in 2008 that I gave up on writing altogether. Then I came back to writing a couple years later and joined an author group who then turned me to a how-to writing forum. SoulMate Publishing was ready to open in 2011 and ran submissions. I wrote The Swan Cove Murders in about a month and sent it off to them. They accepted and offered me a contract within a couple of weeks. I turned my attention back to Secrets of Jenkins Bridge, tweaked it and sent it off. The following year it was published with them.
What is your writing process?
I usually start off all over the place. But then I whip myself into shape and focus on writing at least two pages or a will work on an outline for a book. Once my rough draft is completed, I will print the entire story out and use my red pen to go through editing it. I also try to write a blog post twice a month.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
The Talisman by Stephen King. The writing is brilliant and the imagination put into this one is huge and so wonderful that you feel you are right there. I highly recommend this one.

The Left Behind series: I like how they use the bible to create the stories and reference the bible along the way. It's just a personal favorite because of my beliefs. If you are looking for a good religious fictional series this is it. I have read the entire series at least four times.

The Womens Murder Club by James Patterson. This series is fascinating to me. The friendship the girls have and they solve murders together...I just love it.

The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks because it is my favorite romance story. It is just a great wholesome romance.

On Writing by Stephen King. The first half is about his life and writing. The second half is all kinds of great advice on writing. It's a win-win.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Amazon kindle. I like how it is easy to use and I have the reader downloaded to my phone, my laptop, my desktop and also have my kindle.
