Interview with Douglas Marchbanks

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
A combination of Scotland and England. My economics writing and teaching is designed to use easily understandable Standard English.
When did you first start writing?
Writing educational materials for the use of my students and for commissioned work began more than twenty years ago, but publication worldwide under my own name has been only for the last two or three years.
What's the story behind your latest book?
You can pass economics is meant to show the difference between learning economics and applying it.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Control over distribution and pricing were the main reasons.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords is a good partner to have on board. They are experts at distribution, leaving me to concentrate on content.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Not particularly the writing, but seeing and hearing the positive feedback from students.
What do your fans mean to you?
Appreciation is always welcome.
What are you working on next?
Economic history helps us understand what is happening today and my next book demonstrates that.
Who are your favorite authors?
In economics, many very intelligent teachers produce virtually unreadable textbooks and it is a cause of concern that so many people are put off learning and benefitting from a great subject.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I like to travel and see how societies are managing themselves.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I have to admit that I don't have an ebook reader.
