Interview with Deryl Lampkin

What motivated you to become an indie author?
I am an avid student of the Word of God. In studying the Bible, I have gained great insights and revelations of God's invisible Kingdom that has immensely enriched my life and enabled me to live a more victorious, productive, and stress-free life. I see too many people living stressful and defeated lives. I now understand that applied accurate knowledge is the key to successful living. What motivated me to become an indie author is that I want to share with others the information that has liberated me so that they too can experience the life God purposed for them.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has given me an affordable way to distribute my thoughts, knowledge, and experiences with others. I looked at other options but they were financially out of my reach. Jesus put the Kingdom of God within my reach and Smashwords put the global publishing of the information that I have acquired within my reach.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
My greatest joy in writing is that it enables me to get my thoughts out of my head and onto paper so that I can better understand my thoughts. In addition, it gives me a more convenient way to share my thoughts and leave a legacy of information that can benefit future generations.
What are you working on next?
My next book is about validation of your salvation. Many people believe that they can walk to the front of the church at altar call and repeat after the pastor a few sentences, be saved, and continue to live a carnal and sinful lifestyle. There are numerous scriptures that indicate that we must repent, be born again, be transformed by the renewing of our mind, and walk in the spirit and not after the flesh. Too many people have the belief that there is no other requirements after they have taken the initial step. The truth is that you must change directions and change your behavior and continuously keep stepping in the right direction.
Who are your favorite authors?
My favorite book is the Bible although it is not just one book but 66 books. My favorite author besides God and Jesus, is the Apostle Paul. I have read other books over the span of my life, but all of those other books are now collecting dust or have been discarded. The Bible is more than a book. It is more like a lifetime companion. It is a book that you never stop reading. Every time you read it, there is always something new in it that you did not see before.
What is your writing process?
Most of my writing comes about early in the morning. The Lord awakens me and start sharing information with me. Initially, I use to think that I could go back to sleep and write it down when I got up. However, every time I tried that, five minutes later or less, I can't remember anything that God shared with me. So I quickly learned that when God wakes me up and gives me information, I have to force myself to get up immediately and write it down or else it will be gone forever. After I write down what I was given, I sometimes may need to edit it a little but most times, I hardly have to touch it. I never really think about what I want to write about or have to wrestle with coming up with ideas. I simply write what God gives me to write.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Early morning December 1, 2013 God woke me up to start writing my current book "Deliver Us From Evil". The book initially was entitled "In the Beginning". My original intent was to write a book to share revelations and insights about the first three chapters of the Bible that I had discovered. As I got deeper into the writing of this book, I began to see that the book was shifting its focus towards Adam and Eve. Through them evil entered the world and began to corrupt and dominate the world. That is when I realized that the book was really about our relationship with God and being delivered from the evil forces that has estranged our relationship with God.

I finished the first draft of the book in about 30 days. Later I added more content from conversations I had with others concerning the book. From there, I did several edits to improve the flow and readability of the book. From January to August, I spent time learning about everything else I needed to know about publishing, marketing, and promoting the book.
