Interview with David Huffman

When did you first start writing?
I started writing when I was in high school, but I really didn't concentrate on style until college. After college, I found myself writing more technical works than anything else. This continued until my retirement in 2011 when I began to write some light short stories for my own enjoyment.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Greta Gecko and the Sticky Toe Mystery was written on a whim. My granddaughter had just turned three and I was reading fairly tales and children's poems to her when one evening she asked me if wrote them. I paused before I answered, but it started me thinking about writing for me. My days of writing technical articles were coming to a close. This book has a little of my granddaughter in it, especially the inquisitiveness.
What are you working on next?
I really enjoy writing "who dunnit" stories. I am working on a story set in the late 1940's in Braddock, Pennsylvania. It involves two close friends who were in the intelligence field during WWII.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My best motivators are my two dogs. We have a morning routine that begins around break of dawn, and ends with their morning meal after a strenuous walk. While we are walking, my mind wonders from my writing, to what the sky looks like, to things I hear around me. I find it satisfying as well as relaxing.
