Interview with Kate Kinnear

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in the American Midwest (Nebraska), awed by nature, and, as a result, unpretentious. My work includes the colors and flavors of basic and sometimes complicated issues found in a simple life.
When did you first start writing?
I fell in love with words at an early age, about six.
What's the story behind your latest book?
In it, and all works, I incorporate humor in an effort to paint a picture of survival against sometimes difficult odds.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Though I have had some work published, I would have to say the "indie option" arose favorably from frustration with being chosen finalist, semi-finalist, and honorable mention in contests, so in many cases - "missing out on the print."
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
This remains to be seen, but I appreciate the opportunity.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
For me, the greatest joy of writing is, after struggling through the stages of development, arriving at the "Ahhhhh" spot.
What do your fans mean to you?
I want anyone who might read my work to identify with the basics of it, and to be entertained, moved, or struck in some way by the rest, I don't want to be held in awe. I just want the company of friends. . .
How do you approach cover design?
My daughter is a graphic artist.
What are you working on next?
A variety of things --- Follow up on a novel (PROSTITUTE OF STATE) which is currently in the review process for publication, having at this time a 4.5 star rating.... More poetry -- which is my first love..... Plans for a religious commentary of some sort.
Who are your favorite authors?
Twain, King
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Working two part-time jobs, caring for animals.
