What are you working on next?
I am working on my second book titled "A Sense of Pride: An African-American Journey to West Africa" which is based on my experience in West Africa,
Who are your favorite authors?
Alex Haley, Maya Angelou, Richard Wright, Zora Hurston, and Toni Morrison.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My husband and daughter.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love hanging with family, visiting museums, libraries, and amusement parks.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Word of mouth and Goodreads book reviews.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
My first story was reading Roots by Alex Haley. The impact of learning about my roots and history is really hard to describe due to the emotions I felt reading the book.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Nappily Ever After, Black Indians, Vernon can read, The 7 habits of Highly Effective People, and Anne Frank. I love books that leave me feeling good, empowered, motivated, and inspired.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I am old school and I enjoy laying in bed with an actual book. However, I do have a kindle and ipad!
Describe your desk
My desk is simple with just my laptop and notepad.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Los Angeles, CA and Dallas, Texas. This had a real impact on writing my first book. A lot of heartache and pain happen in both cities.
When did you first start writing?
I have been writing short stories for years that are unpublished. I decided to start writing this book late last year.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My story is about my mother and I going through some serious life obstacles that included poverty, my mother struggling with serious health issues like sickle cell anemia, being legally blind and right side paralyzed, death of my brother, and us standing up to former NBA Clippers owner Donald Sterling.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I wanted to tell this story my way and being an indie author gave me that opportunity.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords allows me to share this story with so many people across the world. I want this story to inspire people across the world.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The thought of empowering someone that may need an extra push to keep fighting everyday.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans mean so much to me! Fans will give support and provide honest feedback because they believe in me!
