Interview with E.D. Bird

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Writing takes me into a different world and I can leave all my troubles in the real world.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I believe that an author has more control as an indie author than one would have with a traditional publisher.
What are you working on next?
I'm currently writing another novel about dogs which is an action packed thriller.
Who are your favorite authors?
I have a number of favourites and I'll start with my number one being Dean Koontz. Others are James Patterson and John Grisham.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I spend a great deal of time promoting and marketing my books, but I am also an editor/proofreader and I do honest book reviews too.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes I do and it was a very long time ago when I was in my early teens.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
No, I've read so many since then that I can't recall the first one.
How do you approach cover design?
I found a really great cover creator and we work very well together.
What do you read for pleasure?
Thrillers mostly. I like a fast paced book with plenty of action.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have a Kindle and as I've never tried anything else, I suppose it must be the one of my choice.
Describe your desk
Organised chaos!
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a rural mining environment in Zimbabwe and my experiences have definitely influenced my writing.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
It's too soon to tell.
