Interview with Edwin Downward

What do you read for pleasure?
I read large amounts of science fiction and fantasy with the odd detour into crime and mystery.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I use the KOBO app on my phone.
Describe your desk
I don't have a desk. I make space wherever I am and start working. Right now its the laptop on my legs.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
Metro Vancouver in British Columbia Canada and the close proximity to nature gave me a love for walking which I try to do whenever I have a writing problem that has me stumped.
When did you first start writing?
I don't remember a time I didn't want to write.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Everything I heard about going the corporate publishing route told me they didn't care about my work beyond the wallet. Still undecided, I turned to the small pub house route only to get the same message over and over again, my writing needed more work. I had taken my work to the edge of my ability, if I wanted to go further I needed professional help. If this meant paying for it myself there was nothing of significant value a pub house of any size could offer me. Decision made.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Getting my vision onto paper (even paper in its digital form).
What are you working on next?
I have the sequel of my first novel well into content edits with the goal of having it in the wild in early 2018.
Who are your favorite authors?
This is a big one. On my present must read list are Krista D Ball, Liana Brooks, Lorna Suzuki, Gini Koch, Lindsay Buroker, and Kristene Perron.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Opportunity. As my bio reads, I am a Christian, a Husband, a Father, and a Writer.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I like to take long walks, volunteer at a local bunny rescue, and sit with my wife watching TV.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Unless given as a gift all the books on my To Be Read list got there by recommendation from people I am in contact with.
