Interview with Elise VanCise

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I love the ability to create unique worlds and characters. Then seeing it come to life as the words fill the page.
Who are your favorite authors?
My favorite authors are Mark Twain, Elmore Leonard, Lee Childs, Dean Koontz, Stephen King, William Ritter, Hunter S. Thompson Oh I think this list could go on for a while :)
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Recommendations from friends or my librarian. Often as I'm browsing a cover will catch my eye or the title sound intriguing and I'll check it out.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, the first full story I ever wrote was a fan fiction for the Mini-series V. (The original) I wanted to know what happened to all these characters next so I started writing my own episodes.
Describe your desk
Lots of books and notes scattered, a shelf of my favorite DVDs to pop in while I'm writing. Pens and pencils of all kinds and shapes. A mustache topped one, a sugar skull, tardis, duster, sonic screwdriver, I'm a bit addicted to pens and notebooks/notepads. On one side sets my bulletin board with novel notes and ideas also a section of things I like and memories. The shelf above my monitor has photos, an old clock, a wishing box and a wind up Yoda that flips when you crank him up :)
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I'm a native Floridian. I've always loved the Sunshine State and found it's history fascinating. I love being able to share a bit of that in my books. We're more than just the mouse house down here :) There is a rich past to stir the imagination.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I read, explore historic places and museums. Sometimes we grab camera's and go out on a photo safari, other times I like to relax and color or paint.
What is your writing process?
I am a combination of a pantster and an outliner. I use bullet point outlines to work out the main ideas and plot of my stories. They give me more flexibility when those crazy characters start off on their own tangents. I try to write every day and have a goal of 2000 words a day.
