Interview with Ellen Garrison

How do you approach cover design?
I start drawing stuff on a piece of paper. I use a pencil with a big honkin’ eraser. If it looks ok, then I go over the pencil lines with a Sharpie.
What do you read for pleasure?
Depends on what you mean by “pleasure.”
Describe your desk
It’s a big table with a bunch of papers and a laptop on it, plus an air purifier, my purse, some keys, several dog poop bags (empty), wires, a grocery list, the user’s manual for the air purifier, two pairs of sunglasses-make that 3 pairs of sunglasses, and an empty Diet Coke can.
When did you first start writing?
First grade. Most of my writing was about looking and seeing and running and walking. It was really pretty damn good stuff as I recall.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My dogs. One chews my arm while the other sits its ass in my face.
