Interview with Simon Gandossi

What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My writing. For a long time I worked in a job I hated and had to drag myself out. Now I am doing something I love and that is the best wake up call of all.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love history and am very active in volunteer groups involving various historical societies. I love cricket, tennis and soccer and try to keep fit at the gym a few times a week. I also love the water and love fishing and snorkeling.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I actually prefer the old fashioned hard / soft cover books. I love going to the library.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
In 1996 I wrote a horror story which at the time was my favorite genre. It was a haunted ghost story about a busy hotel next to a cemetery.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Anne Franks Diary. I read it in high school and the first thing I wanted to do was get on a plane and visit her house. It awakened my passion for history and even today I still read it occasionally. It had such an impact on me because I know write historical fiction and my first novel Elsa was holocaust related.
How do you approach cover design?
I never design a cover until I am at least 3/4 of the way through my novels. That way I have a better of idea of what I want designed. I have a very good designer who understands the look and feel I am always looking for.
What do you read for pleasure?
Historical Non-fiction. I love learning new things.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I am old fashioned and prefer printed books.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Social media, word of mouth and having a great group of people who spend their free time handing out flyers and posters for me.
Describe your desk
Very neat and well organized.
When did you first start writing?
In my first year of high school, I wrote a book of short stories.
