Interview with Emet Zyon

What are your five favorite books, and why?
Fingersmith- Sarah Waters is absolutely brilliant with her plot, characters and descriptions.
Lois Lenz, Lesbian Secretary- Monica Nolan's writing is hilarious, campy and I laughed out loud while reading it, multiple times.
Ready Player One- I love the characters the Ernie Cline creates (they are easy to relate to), and the future he paints is very creative.
The Prydain Chronicles- I think when I first read these in 6th grade, it was my first foray into Sci Fi/Fantasy, which I love until today.
Man's Search for Meaning- A beautifully written non-fiction book by Viktor Frankl, a holocaust survivor, about finding meaning in your existence.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I thought that my 6th grade teacher was the best thing ever, so I wrote a story in which she was the heroine.
What do you read for pleasure?
Science Fiction, Fantasy, Non-fiction, and Novels.
What is your writing process?
Sometimes the words spurt out of me and I have to keep up just to write them as they form in my head. Other times I'm sitting down at the computer staring at it like it's my worst enemy and nothing comes out. If you have inspiration and motivation, it makes all the difference.
What are you working on next?
An anthology on queer jews, as well as a novel.
Describe your desk
My desk can be anywhere because I have a laptop!
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Knowing that what I'm writing may help people, in whatever way is useful for them.
When did you first start writing?
I first started stories when I was in 4th grade, not that they were any good...
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I hoped that whatever I wrote would help people, and I knew that meant I had to get it out there someway for people to find.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Besides a cup of coffee? The opportunity that each new day could bring is exciting. You never know what could happen.
How do you approach cover design?
I enjoy graphic design, so I like being involved in envisioning the cover.
