Interview with KF Lee

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Writing is a challenge. Moments of study and research alternate with character creation where I step into the character's physical dimension, emotional observations, intuitions, and experiences.

The process of writing equally my greatest joy. Especially gratifying are the break-through dream sequences or aha! moments.
What are you working on next?
The Alteroids.

Another world inhabited with new characters (and many from the Light Seeders) expose suppositions about what constitutes reality.
Who are your favorite authors?
In no particular order: Pat Conway, Elizabeth George, Dickens, Marie Corelli, Shakespeare, Ruth Rendell, Ngaio Marsh, Doris Lessing, and this list could go on and on, suffice it to say I love, admire, and thank all writers who have and continue to educate me about the very act of writing.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Gardening, walking, listening to music, watching the Atlanta Braves, eating good food, partying with friends, and taking my daily journey into a book.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I do not have an e-reading device, nor do I belong to Facebook (the latter for different reasons). I suspect, however, that an e-reader will be coming my way, quite soon.
How do you approach cover design?
By researching art, and then discussing those ideas with an extremely talented artist I'm most fortunate to know.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Because I am a novice, I've begun marketing through word of mouth, email, a blog.
What motivated you to become an indie author?

I was forewarned quite some time ago through a speech given by Doris Lessing. She had submitted a book to her agent under a pseudonym. The agent snubbed it. Lessing was livid and used the opportunity to highlight what the publishing industry was becoming, the waste of talent dumped from publishing industries' garbage.

A whole genre of books are devoted to teaching the art of writing query letters. There are also very expensive classes and seminars devoted to the subject. Like a degree from a well-regarded university, the query determines whether you have the right knock at the agent's door. Very few authors have that kind of disposable income to pay for such a pricey degree.

Indie publishing has broken these pretentious and class-conscious barriers. We have entered a more dynamic era for both writers and readers. BRAVO!
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Please see my answer regarding Indie Publishing.

In addition, Smashwords is adding writer and reader tools for easier access. Again BRAVO!
What do my readers mean to me?
If I could give every single one of my readers (or critics) a big hug, you can bet I would.
