Interview with Evan Asher

How do you approach cover design?
For my first book, I decided to go with a professional cover designer. I chose my cover based on the resemblance of the models to the characters in my story.
What do you read for pleasure?
I enjoy many different genres from suspense, to science fiction, to romance.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have a Kindle.
Describe your desk
Cluttered.
When did you first start writing?
I believe I penned my first story when I was about eight years old. I don't remember a lot about it except it was set in a scary forest.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
At the urging of friends and family, I finally decided to take out my many story ideas and start getting them ready for publication. The time just seemed to be right.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
There are many joys, but I think my favorite part is coming up with a happy ending. I'm a happy ending kind of guy.
What are you working on next?
Another romance. I've got several rolling around in my head and I'm not sure which one I'll choose for my next project.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Almost everything. Another day of adventures, challenges, beauty, small pleasures, large pleasures, sunshine, rain, etc.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Either working, writing, reading, watching an occasional game, or loafing.
What is your writing process?
When an idea comes to me, even if it's just a snippet of one, I try to make a note of it. When I'm ready to write, I look over those ideas and see if any of them give me a spark. If not, I'll just think of a new one. It all starts with the idea. Then I start asking myself, what if? And I develop the story in that way. Then comes the really fun part: creating the characters and finding out as I go along how they will interact with each other. Sometimes they surprise me.
