Interview with Angela Castillo

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up mostly in the country, the oldest of seven kids in a poor family. Something we could always afford were notebooks, so I filled them up with dreams and ideas.
When did you first start writing?
I was eight when I wrote my first story about two children who climbed a rainbow by sticking gum to their shoes. Sadly, the story has been lost forever.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I have niche stories that would have been hard to find a home for in most traditional publishing houses, so I decided to let them go out into the world for themselves. You can see them, whistling along with a kerchief over one shoulder holding all their earthly goods.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
It's wonderful to have a platform that will distribute my work to so many markets. One of the biggest challenges to an Indie author is marketing, so anything helps!
What are you working on next?
A sequel to my kid's book, "The Amazing Adventures of Toby the Trilby."
Who are your favorite authors?
C.S. Lewis, Roald Dahl, Shannon Hale, Joan Aiken, Louisa May Alcott, Beverly Clearly, I could go on!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love to walk in the woods and spend time with my three kids.
