Interview with JR Jordan

What is your writing process?
I like to use voice recognition software and just talk out loud. The editing takes a bit longer, but I like this flow of working the best.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I play disc golf. Spend time with my family.
Describe your desk
varies between a messy clutter or meticulously clean
What's the story behind your latest book?
I spent a lot of time in Bozeman, Montana and met a variety of different people and characters. Some of the little stories in the book are factual and true. Others are mashups of different places, events and people. I wanted to show a lead character that started out with the best intentions. He gets a little beat up over time and makes bad decisions that he must soon answer to. He believes all of his problems are caused by other people. But in the end he realizes that he is the one that needs to change. So there is meant to be a huge arc of learning with Kidd. He finds himself in the mess he created.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I want to turn this book into a feature film.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I like Smashwords because it ports my book to all the other outlets fairly easy.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
There is none. Writing hurts. It's a slow and painful process. I guess the only joy is seeing the finished product and knowing that someone else enjoyed or gained something from it.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything
What are you working on next?
Turning this novel into a film.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Treasure Island. It turned me into a big time reader.
How do you approach cover design?
Well, don't use Microsoft word to design a cover...I would rather pull my teeth out with a butter knife.
