Interview with Barbara Wade

What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I'm inspired every day by people everywhere. We are all on a path to learn and we learn about ourselves through others. Since fitness is a lifestyle for me, I'm surrounded at the gym, during outdoor activities and when I compete by very positive and motivated people. It's catching! When I'm just running errands and doing everyday things, people often comment that I seem so fit and healthy and I love being able to take that opportunity to encourage them! And of course my clients continue to inspire me! Seeing their progress and how happy they are when they see results motivates me too.
What is your writing process?
When I write, I first spend time thinking about the topic and then making sure of my facts. By the time I actually sit down to write, it just flows.
What do you read for pleasure?
My favorite things to read are self-help and health-related books. I also enjoy biographies, because you find out how courageous the human spirit really is, and that's inspiring.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My favorite e-reading device is my IPad mini. It's easy with the size to have it with me, so if I'm waiting or have some down time, I can always make it count and get lost in a good book.
Describe your desk
I used to feel "confined" to a desk, but even though I still have one, I often prefer being in the living room on my laptop...or the park.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in New Orleans. And interestingly enough, when I was younger, I always said one day I'd be a writer when I got older. Growing up, I enjoyed writing on the school newspaper, and kept journals, and wrote poetry. I wrote a paper in school "How to Write a Policies and Procedures Manual" and it got published in a trade journal. Then I got away from writing and I didn't really do much of it, other than write press releases on occasion, until I became so passionate about fitness. I think I just needed to be passionate about the topic to become inspired to write again.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I wrote "How to Be Fit and Ageless Over 50" as the step-by-step bottom-line advice on how to look great and feel great, especially when you're over fifty. I am an anti-aging consultant in addition to being a certified personal trainer and can help someone in person or online with their particular concerns.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
It's so doable with today's technology to be an indie author! In today's world, you don't have to jump through hoops to get a publisher. And besides, everyone wants to download and we all want it right now. What a great opportunity to write something you're passionate about and have other people easily access it.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
One of the greatest joys of writing is expressing yourself on a topic and working with it like a big puzzle, assembling the thoughts, making it flow in a logical sequence and seeing it come together. And then knowing someone, somewhere is going to get something out of it.
What do your fans mean to you?
My best friend and I have a radio show, "Classic Bikini Divas," on LA Talk Radio and also our show "Classic Bikini Divas" on our YouTube channel. Our fanbase continues to grow as we share our tips and our own personal challenges that many people can relate to. Fans mean so much because they appreciate what you are sharing. Connecting with others and helping is an amazing feeling.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I've fallen back in love with writing, and endeavor to say something worthwhile whether it's a tweet, or a blog, or asked to write an article. In my daily life, I do my utmost to "walk the walk" and lead by example. Health and fitness is my lifestyle, so I'm active daily and also love to shop for and prepare healthy and imaginative meals. Maybe there's a cookbook in my future!
