Interview with Fred X

Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, the story was written in the sixth grade. The fish and the mermaid were so in love that my teacher was inspired to grade me an A+.
What is your writing process?
Generally I enjoy writing in the morning. But anytime is a great time to write-out thoughts!!
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
My first story reading was Frankenstein. And I didn't realize that reading Frankenstein would expose my abnormalities, too; because before reading the book I thought Frankenstein was the Monster.
How do you approach cover design?
I try to match the design with the over-all content of the book. And also I attempt to center the approach to cover design near the theme of the material.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
All were books studied in college as part of the curriculum. No fav five, but school influenced me to read and become an author.
What do you read for pleasure?
For pleasure I read current events in America (and Around the world)-to be inspired to make a difference in the world from whence I was born.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Definitely the computer.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Starting from scratch I take nothing for granted so every technique was beneficial and effective towards progress necessary to self-publish.
Describe your desk
Very dense at the moment-still running a Dell computer. My computer is so old I forgot the model, and also afraid to overload due to its age.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I was raised in the South, therefore the views in my writings were shaped to match.
When did you first start writing?
I first really started writing the first day I attended college at Louisiana State and Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The story of "Memos to America" resembles the journey of my own life as a citizen of America. And to be a citizen and veteran of the United States suggest that it's my duty to help bring civility to the country and world I truly love.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
As a self-published author I realized that choosing the avenue to market, sell, and publish is totally my decision- and that's totally motivating!!!
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I'm new to Smashwords; I will update (answer) after 2-months from now (April 28, 2013).
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Being able to decide what I want to write is very comforting.
What do your fans mean to you?
Without a fan base the author is "just a shadow lurking in the dark."
