Interview with Larry Hunter

What motivated you to become an indie author?
I believe that writing is a wonderful means of expression and telling stories. As an technical trainer I learned to make dull topics interesting by wrapping the information in a story. My writing allows me to tell stories in print (or on a screen) much in the manner I did orally in the past. I also enjoy the challenge of putting a book together with no outside help other than some editing. It is gratifying to see my own creations in an e book format and even more so to have readers give constructive, flattering, and honest evaluations.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I do not remember the first story I wrote but the first that was published remains clear in my mind. It was a short story about a boy growing up on a sharecroppers farm in the south. Base on a true event it won an award and started me on my path to self publishing my novels. It was called "The Egg Gathering Incident".
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When not writing fiction I am an avid fisherman and write a fishing column for my local newspaper. Of course I read a great deal both for pleasure and for research. I enjoy working with wood but working on classic motorcycles, either restoration or building custom bikes is my biggest passion.
What are you working on next?
I am currently writing a novel which takes place in the near future involving an apocalyptic event and the political situations that led to it.. The story follows a group located in a campground in the South as it prepares in advance and then struggles to survive in the aftermath of the event.
What do you read for pleasure?
I read the same genre's that I write in. I enjoy crime novels, mysteries, and hard science fiction novels particularly those dealing with apocalyptic situations.
