Interview with Francis Wait

Describe your desk
My desk is in the smallest room in the flat. Even the bathroom is bigger than this. It is a cupboard.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a small town on the English Coast between Brighton and Eastbourne.
When did you first start writing?
About 1998 when I got my first Computer. Previous to this I tried longhand with no success.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I love writing about Magic and this story was just right for me.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Publishers nowadays seem to want to only publish Z list celebrities memoires, or cookery books and they make it very difficult for unknown authors to get published. Also I am sure that electronic books are the future.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has enabled me to get my books on to the open market at minimal cost and customers don't have to pay all the printing costs of a book.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I can write my story's to follow any guidelines I choose, the only limits I have are my imagination. I also think that most authors have a little of the Walter Mitty about them. With apologies to the writer who dreamed him up
What do your fans mean to you?
If I could, I would make a personal friend of every one. At the very least, I enjoy their feedback.
What are you working on next?
I get bored writing one book at a time and I have about five or six in the process of writing at any one time.
Who are your favorite authors?
My favourite Authors are Wilbur Smith (I'd be in seventh heaven if I could write like him) William Stuart Long is another. But unfortunately his books are out of print. Incidentally, electronic books never go out of print.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Life, I am retired now, and write for pleasure but I still look forward to every day.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I do jigsaws, and I like to go out for long walks in the beautiful Sussex Countryside.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I trawl the Internet and visit the major websites that sell books, such as Smashwords.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Indeed I do. It is entitled 'The Survivalists' Although I would like to sell more as I think the story is relevant to our world.
