Interview with Franklin Richardson

What's the story behind your latest book?
After 20 years as a recruiter I found that many people that I interviewed were not happy with the work they had been doing for many years and were not satisfied with just getting one meaningless job after another. After the internet took hold it became more difficult to stay competitive and make choices of jobs and careers. There was information overload in choosing a career. People that wanted to choose, change or enhance their careers needed help. About ten years ago, I started using my recruiting experience to put together a coaching process to help people with their careers. Using the concept of "inside out versus outside in" and wanting to reach a larger population I wrote this book.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
When my book was finished, I researched ways to get it published. Traditional publishing was out of the question as it is too onerous and depends too much on the opinion of the publisher who does not have the knowledge or experience to accept or reject the value of the book. By chance, I met a woman in Starbucks who is a published author and she suggested contacting Smashwords to publish an ebook.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords offered great service and help in publishing my book and it is free. My book was published with the greatest of ease and support of Smashwords staff.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
It is such a pleasure to know that my book is available worldwide to HELP PEOPLE finding , developing or changing their career.
What are you working on next?
My next book will be about my coaching success in Cuba using the process in my first book. The book will outline the unique difficulties coaching faces in Cuba and how dire the need for coaching is in Cuba.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in the fifties at which time all one needed was a high school diploma to get a good permanent job. I took the easy way and accepted the first job I was offered then subsequent jobs came easy. I did not consider planning a career and ended up just working for the money moving from one job to another without considering any career implications. Very late in life after making enough money to retire I decided my VISION was to apply my experience to help as many people as possible with their careers so that they may not have to have an ad hoc career as I did.
