Interview with Gabriel E. Perea

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Central Jersey, small town named Colonia. In the heart of Woodbridge township. Typical American town where high school sports rule the scene. There is here my passion for fitness was born, because I wasn't the most athletically gifted athlete. I needed to work harder than the rest to keep up.
When did you first start writing?
The first time I began writing for hobby or pleasure would be at some point in college when I was very active on message boards of health and fitness websites. Consistently putting my ideas to the test by writing short articles and threads for peer review and commenting.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The book took my 5 years to write! It came to me in the shower, when the slogan from an absurd weightloss diet pill kept playing over and over in my head, "the body you've always wanted is just a phone call away!"

This seemingly harmless slogan kept on looping over and over until I became so infuriated with their absurd weightloss claims I made it my life's goal to write a book to really help people how to discover the fit versions of themselves and make it a lifestyle! No bull here, just the basic principles of fitness and how to make it work for you on a day to day basis.

From that point on I juggled working a full -time job, bartending on weekends and competing from time to time in bodybuilding competitions. Whenever I had a moment, I would sit down and write.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I've always been a do it yourself kind of a person. I don't need the approval a big corporate publisher to tell me my book is good enough to help people actually make a change.

I know for a fact it is because for 4 years of my life I've trained hundreds of clients who have all had excellent results and even saved a man's life through proper strength training and nutrition.
