Interview with Karen Wallen

How do you approach cover design?
I look for the perfect oh-so-yummy male models, ones that will appeal to all women. I also keep the same background so the books, since they are a series, are easily recognizable.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans are my inspiration. Sounds corny, but it's true. If I were to stop hearing from them I would probably not put so much effort into writing. It's my fans that make me feel as if I'm doing something worthwhile and they forever have my gratitude.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The Galaxy Warrior Series is a mix of romance, adventure, and science fiction. I love everything to do with space!
What are you working on next?
I am working on set 2 of the galaxy series. So far I have 6 books planned for release next year, 2017. Most of these books will have Pzian warrior searching out gifted honored guests....guests with some type of psychic ability. I already have many fun ideas and welcome input from readers.
Describe your desk
My desk! Wow. Okay, I do have a desk but rarely use it. I write wherever I feel like it, with my laptop.
What do you read for pleasure?
Actually, I read a mix of books. Fiction and non-fiction. I like mysteries, romance, and paranormal. I also enjoy reading historical books.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing is hearing from readers. I love getting emails and respond to every single one. Readers sometimes share their thoughts on the direction characters should go, and I appreciate that. Input is always welcome.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not writing, I'm doing the normal the house, picking up after my four-legged kids, gardening, shopping. I do try to take a trip at least every couple of months, even if it's a short one. I find the trips refreshing and often find myself jotting notes about sounds, sights, smells, and taking pictures of scenery to help with descriptions in future books. That's not the intent of the trips, but it just sorta happens anyway..
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
The first story I ever wrote was in middle school and it was about a dog. For a middle school student it was a lengthy one, coming in at about 10 pages! I earned an A, and fell in love with writing. I wished I had kept it.
What is your writing process?
I really don't have any. I just sit down and write. Sometimes I go to bed only to spring out of it minutes later to jot down sudden thoughts or to all of a sudden have an urge to write another chapter. I'm very undisciplined when it comes to writing.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
No, but I remember the first story that ever impacted me. It was Of Mice and Men. Incredible story.
