Interview with Adriel Chevalier

What do you read for pleasure?
Like many long distance runners, who either train or compete, I exclusively write these days rather than read. However, I enjoy the classics as well as contemporary works that cause me to think.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I don't market books. I offer my stories freely, and I hope that others will enjoy and contemplate different paradigms. One should never stop learning and take every opportunity to find the amazing aspects of life.
Describe your desk
I have to laugh. I'm an organized writer, but my desk is often a mess.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in an urban neighborhood in a state capitol. I lived on the edge of a rough neighborhood and was often bullied. Rather than become bitter, I chose compassion toward others and my encouragement through my writing is for us to learn, grow, love, and accept others for who they are.
When did you first start writing?
I began writing comic books for my friends in my teens. After a long hiatus, I started a murder mystery in the mid '90's, but I never published it. I had another long hiatus, and I as I grew older I realized that much of what I had experienced in life would be lost forever when I passed on. So, I decided to put many of my phenomenal experiences into works of fiction in my latter years.
What's the story behind your latest book?
It is a quest to deliver a hidden treasure, but the underlying aspects are about not putting limits on ourselves within any realm. I have discovered that everything is possible, and perspective means everything. I always search for the perspective that will never impose limits.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
It is a great venue to share my experiences.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Success is a very subjective analysis. My success is being able to offer concepts to others. In that regard, I would consider it to be a "smashing" success, no pun intended.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
When I write, I have messages to convey, but I never know what the story is. I am the first to read the work, and it never ceases to surprise me as it unfolds.
What do your fans mean to you?
I don't have fans. I have brothers and sisters who live on this earth side by side, and my hope is that they will learn to get along as a family.
What are you working on next?
I am currently working on my third novel of the series, and the fourth is already being considered. The story continues as long as I keep learning.
Who are your favorite authors?
My favorites are Umberto Eco, Alexander Dumas, both fictional authors. However, my favorite works are biographies.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Life is an adventure, no matter where you are or what condition you are in. Never stop seeking the wonderment that is offered each day. I live in wide-eyed amazement of my surroundings.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I have several oil paintings and enjoy creating them in the winter months. I play the piano, drums and write music. I have extensive flower gardens that I tend throughout the warmer months. I cook daily with great care to keep it healthy and free of preservatives and other additives. I exercise in my gym, and somewhere along the way, I find time to write.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
At the age of fourteen, I wrote a comic book series about the Beatles.
What is your writing process?
I listen; I write.
How do you approach cover design?
Readers who judge a book by its cover probably shouldn't read mine. My writing goes far beneath the surface. I choose to keep my covers simple with a black background. Black symbolizes our extensive ignorance. The contrast of the picture depicts our opportunity for enlightenment.
When is your next book in the Adriel Chevalier series coming out?
We are still working through our challenges with taking down the agency. If all goes well, and we survive, my hope is to publish in late 2019 or early 2020.

Although this is a work of fiction, many of the events described are actual experiences. There is no such thing as the supernatural. All phenomena can be explained scientifically if we bother to conduct the appropriate research. Many aspects of Truth are cryptically exposed, and one should always keep an open mind when searching for answers.
