Interview with Yvette Noyes

when did you first start writing?
In elementary school, when it was suggested by a relative to write an 'interesting' letter to an elderly, paralyzed relative. She enjoyed the childish narratives and that was what got me hooked.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
The ease and enjoyment of the creative collaborative process. It made the impossible become reality.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Cat-herding. And working, living a pretty basic life.
What is your writing process?
Brynna and I work primarily in e-mails and off-line with each other's files. Our input takes us to interesting twists and turns as we bring our characters' stories to life.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Not the very first story I ever read but the one that had the longest-term impact was 'Song of Years" be Bess Streeter Aldrich. It was as though the author's words time-travelled me out of the Seventies and created a reality for me in a safer place.
How do you approach cover design?
That is handled by my brilliant and talented co-author!
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My laptop.
Describe your desk
Very messy! Littered with coffee-cup ringed scraps of paper, sticky notes and recipe cards with must-remember notes scrawled, an antique salad cruet stand that holds pencils, pens, a small steel rose, old photo's clipped on and always a tube of lip balm.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
In a small Eastern Washington city with a very middle-America population that always gave me the impression it was trying to be bigger than it really was. That attitude seemed to root in a whole lot of us, ha.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
By allowing my co-author and me to share our work.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Watching ideas about characters, settings and scenarios take shape and grow into a finished story.
