Interview with Roxanne Hargrove

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
My family moved around a lot but the longest residence was in Vermillion Ohio. I don't remember moving there because I was so young but I lived there until I was twelve.

It's not so much where I've been that influences my writing as it is my life experiences. I think every writer, fiction or non-fiction pulls information from their life experiences to add to their stories.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing short stories when I was in high school. It started as writing my teachers and classmates into humorous stories as animals. Everyone got a kick out of it. I guess that motivated me to continue writing. I still only write short stories.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The story is about a married couple who had been separated for over a year reuniting. As you can imagine, both would be very, shall we say, frustrated. I wanted to portray their love, passion, and desire for each other to the reader. I think I did that in a very heated way.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I like the freedom of being and indie author. I can write when I want to write and there isn't any pressure to get the next book out. I love to write and I want others to see my work I just don't want the hassle of contract.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has definitely helped me get my work out there so yes, I would say so because I believe that if you write something and it's out there for others to see, you're a success.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
When you write something, you create a door into your mind. It's wonderful. That is joy.
What are you working on next?
Right now I am working on a thriller called A DISH BEST SERVED COLD. It's not going to be pretty. It's about an abused housewife exacting her revenge on her husband who has informed her that he's leaving.
Who are your favorite authors?
My favorite authors are Brian Bowyer (also an indie), Alexandra Anthony (indie), J.R.R Tolkien, Terry Brooks, and J.K. Rowling.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Knowing I'm waking up to the love of my life. He makes each day worth living.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Working, Playing video games, Playing with PicsArt, Reading, Editing, Formatting, Sleeping
How do you approach cover design?
I have a friend who I use as my cover model. She sends me pictures and I send them to my sister to turn into a cover. She's absolutely brilliant with Photoshop.
