Interview with Gillibran Brown

Published 2020-04-17.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I do, thank you for asking.
What is your writing process?
I use words a lot, oh and a computer, sometimes even a pen and paper or the back of an envelope.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
No.
How do you approach cover design?
Very quietly on tiptoe, so it can't hear me coming and run away.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
My own, because I wrote them and I have an ego as big as a house.
What do you read for pleasure?
Filth mainly.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
A washing machine, nothing works on it, but it's still my device of choice.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I find threats work quite well for me, or emotional blackmail. It's a hard person indeed who fails to cough up after being subjected to racking sobs and shameless begging while having their ankles clutched. I've sold at least, oh, let's see, maybe two or three books this way.
Describe your desk
It's big and kind of oblong with a leg at each corner.
When did you first start writing?
I was about four and at school, they made me do it.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The story behind my latest book is the same as the one behind my others - it's all about me, me me!
What are you working on next?
Making the dinner, and quickly, before the Lord and Master's of hearth and home discover me shirking in the study instead of attending to my duties.
