Interview with Auden Caleb

When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I listen to music , sing, read or create art and enjoy the complex simplicity of life. :)
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, i wrote about a unicorn who got his heart broken - the idea was cute but the content was embarrassing ..... :)
What is your writing process?
Well, I like to start off with 5 minutes of meditation then i make sure i have ice green tea infused with lemon and cucumber which then means i can start writing by starting off with an idea (usually a sentence) and elaborate from there
How do you approach cover design?
It has to be arty and kind of like an idea of what is prominent within the context but not giving away the whole thing.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
1.Emma by Jane Austen 2.Prozac nation by Elizabeth Wurtzel 3.The road of the dead by Kevin Brooks 4.The great Gatsby by F.Scott Fitzgerald 5.The Mara Dyer trilogy by Michelle Hodkin
Because they're all real, they portray the way life is in reality not in movies and they all have the power to make me cry which signifies the emotions they stir within me.They're amazing and i would totally recommend and if you've already read them - read them again!
What do you read for pleasure?
I'm quite open minded when it comes to book but i don't really like books in which the plot can be guessed from the first few pages and also ones that are terrible at engaging the reader in any way.I'm a bit of a hopeless romantic so i do like romance but not the soppy kind, more like the kind that is real and doesn't always have a happy ending.I like emotional books that capture the reader , i also like dark books in which there is a lot of depth. For e.g Prozac nation which i love, is about Depression and drugs and thats why the book is absolutely beautiful but real whilst reminding me of Sylvia Plath, an amazing poet.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I've grown up in London and yes, that influences my writing because i find London quite depressing which results in a darker meaning underlying my poems but i hope to move to America after university so i can pursue a career in New York which might add a more positive tinge to my writing....
When did you first start writing?
I started writing when i was 11 and felt life was too much and i was growing up too fast.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The story behind my poetry is my entire life.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
To have this emotion on paper, it is a release, an art form - it is beautiful and when people read it they are reading a fragment of me, so personally, its allowing my pain to be seen and beautified but it also allows me to let go.Also, the slightest chance that you can inspire or connect with someone over your humble words is absolutely beautiful, more than words can say.
How old are you?
I am 15
When is your birthday?
On the 14th of July
