Interview with Andrew Marmion

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I love helping people. I get a real buzz when I see another book sell. It means someone else is up for being helped.
What do your fans mean to you?
They really help me to keep writing. They make it so worthwhile. They also help when self-doubt, the bogeyman of every writer, comes a haunting.
What are you working on next?
I'm in the middle of writing 'Angelic Mindfulness', how the angels help us use mindful techniques in a deeper more fulfilling way. I call it Mindfulness with a twist.
Who are your favorite authors?
John Connolly (Charlie Parker books in particular), Robert Crais, J.R.R. Tolkein
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Having to take my kids to school LOL
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I research into marketing. I'm also finishing off a course in Mindfulness so I'm qualified to teach it. I'm also studying a life coaching course. After that CBT and Shiatsu.

I spend a lot of time with my wife and kids. This time is so special to me. I love walking in the country, beaches and the like. It helps me process stuff and get ideas for writing.

I also like to paint. I draw and paint other people's angels and hold angel parties and read angel cards. It's another source of income and is great fun.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Mainly browsing, though some are referred to me through the likes of Goodreads.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. I was 11 years old. I wrote a book about foxes similar to Watership Down. Don't ask me what happened to it. According to my English teacher, it was pretty good. She encouraged me to keep writing.
What is your writing process?
I take a simple approach. I write my first draft – I should say my only draft – as I tend to only write one. I wrote my first eBook of 57 pages in a week (yes, he brags!). I spend a lot longer proof reading and editing it. Ideas come readily. So far I’ve never suffered from writer’s block. I better keep my fingers crossed, huh?
How do you approach cover design?
I experiment with free pictures I download and with Word 2013. I also use the KDP cover design tool.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Lord, you ask a lot of questions. Just like my daughter, Ciara. I love Lord of the Rings, The Half-Blood Prince, the Bible, among others. I love reading books that grip and hold my attention early on. If it hasn't by chapter 3, you can forget it.
What do you read for pleasure?
Fantasy novels, thrillers (especially if a serial killer's the baddie!), supernatural thrillers, self-help. Can I stop now LOL
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I use my laptop and my smart phone when I don't have it with me.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Still scratching my head on that one mate.
Describe your desk
It's black with silver lining. It reminds me of Malificent for some reason.
