Interview with M E Girouard

Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I never wrote a story in my life. I'm a plumber.
What is your writing process?
My wife asks questions and I answer them. We found a need and attempted to fill it. Over my 40 years of plumbing I have witnessed many young people purchasing homes and ending up with outrageous costs to fix problems they didn't expect.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I remember Aesop's Fables when I was a kid. Life is full of lessons. The secret is to remember them. Like someone once said, you want to learn something new read a one hundred year old book.
How do you approach cover design?
I hire a professional.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Caravan by James Michener, Northwest Passage by Kenneth Roberts, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne, The Dogs of War by Frederick Forsyth, Last of the Breed by Louis L' Amour. As a child I lived the life of an 18th century trapper and lived on a farm. Individualism and self reliance were traits taught to me and expected of me as a child.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Samsung tablet.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Word of mouth works for me. I get a lot of work on the 18th hole at our local golf course!
Describe your desk
It's my wife's desk!
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
On a farm surrounded by woods. It was a wonderful childhood. I learned to hunt, shoot, make maple syrup and ski.
When did you first start writing?
I had the idea for a long time. Finally got it put together.
What's the story behind your latest book?
To help people understand issues related to plumbing when they purchase a new home. It could save them a lot or a little in the end.
