Interview with Grant Finnegan

When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
In summer I like to Windsurf, and in Winter I like to Snowboard. Other than these two hobbies, keeping fit, reading, cooking and just enjoying what life has to offer.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Smashwords of course!
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Absolutely, it was called the Shadow Room, a story about a guy that discovers a place between your dreams and the real world. I may one day re-write it and release it.
What is your writing process?
The overall idea of the story is what generally comes first. Then the characters are formed and the structure / layout of the story is developed. I always know how the story starts, and how it ends, generally first. I then fill in the big gap!
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I cannot remember the first story I ever read, however I remember in early High School 'To Kill a Mockingbird,' was a story which I enjoyed reading and somewhat had an impact on me. Great story.
How do you approach cover design?
I generally have an idea of the how the cover design looks, however I leave it up to the experts who normally come up with something I am very happy and satisfied with. The Seventh List is one such design.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
This is a tough question to answer, however 5 books which come to mind are:
Duma Key - Stephen King - Wow, it felt as if I took a holiday on the Florida Keys. A compelling and addictive read.
Area 7 - Matthew Reilly - This book ruined my sleep for 2 weeks, it was so addictive I could not stop reading it.
The Big Picture - Douglas Kennedy - Another gripping story which sucks you in, I love the way he writes.
Any Clive Cussler Novel - If you really want to check out of your life for a hour or so a day, read any Clive Cussler novel - fabulous.
Deep Survival - Laurence Gonzales (Non-Fiction) I re-read chapters regularly, it teaches you all about surviving life's challenges.
What do you read for pleasure?
Generally Action Thriller Novels however some crime stories from time to time also.
Some of my favourite Authors are:
Clive Cussler, Stephen King, Matthew Reilly, Douglas Kennedy, James Patterson. Even Janet Evanovich gets a run from time to time as her Stephanie Plum Series is a great break from the above.
