Interview with Greg Thomas II

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Breathing life into a story and watching it play out. I believe that when you create a great story, you have also created another world. Writing and watching that world unfold is the greatest time for me.
What are you working on next?
I have a comic book title in the works that I hope to produce and submit to a couple independent comic book developers.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My son is my inspiration and the reason I get out of bed. Sometimes, that's more literal than I may like but it is one of the quirks of parenting. I continue to work hard so that my son can see how to attain his own goals and pursue the things he will be passionate about.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love to immerse myself in the story line of a good video game or comic book. I love storytelling on different platforms because of their ability to entertain the user through game play or pictures while still presenting a solid story.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. I was in third grade and it was a story that depicted my friends and I as elemental ninjas fighting monsters.
What is your writing process?
A lot of my writing process is mental. I like to take a week just thinking about how all the aspects of my story needs to fit together. I don't start writing until these little details are ironed out. It makes it to my computer if the stories good enough to begin production.
What do you read for pleasure?
I read a lot of comic books for pleasure. I like how such great reading and entertaining pictures can be compiled into a short story. It's like watching a T.V. show that comes on once a month.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I spent a lot of my younger years moving around until my family settled in Texas in 2000. I have been here ever since and I believe that the diversity of the people I live around helps me create fresh characters for my writing.
When did you first start writing?
I began writing stories in the third grade for my friends. It was fun to imagine us as super heroes, warriors, tricksters, or any other types of characters I could come up with.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book is a flash fiction story about a guy who becomes masked villian named "The Swine" after he is burned by one of his clients.
